My Top 7 Tips When Packing for Europe

Hallo from Germany! We arrived safe and sound to our second home. I have missed it so much and can’t wait to begin all of our Germany adventures that are in store for the next two weeks. The main reason we are visiting is to celebrate Philipp’s Grandpa’s 80th birthday. He is so special to P, which makes him just as special to me. We are looking forward to celebrating with him as well as seeing all of our family here at one time in one place.

Packing for our trips overseas is something I thoroughly enjoy. Partly because of this trunk style luggage that makes me feel like I am in a different decade. It is so effortlessly classic and I adore it.  I also genuinely love the planning of it all and according to Philipp, I take it pretty seriously. As soon as we booked our flights, my planning wheels were spinning. I knew we would be visiting in the Spring and wanted my style color palette to represent that. I gravitated towards a lot of french blues and crisp whites for this trip and well as shades of pink per usual.

Since I may be one of the few who gets joy out of packing, I thought I would share some of the details I think about when preparing for overseas trips.

  • Make a list. I begin adding items to my list as they come to mind making this task less stressful.
  • Try on Outfits. I style all of my outfits before I begin to pack. This also helps me construct my list including which shoes, handbag, jewelry, and sunnies suit the outfit best.
  • Choose pieces that work together. I like to bring a few versatile pieces with me that I can pair with several outfits. This also means less to pack! For this trip I chose two. I brought along this Abercrombie Denim Jacket and this simple white Madewell button down that will pair well with many of my other pieces like jeans and skirts.
  • Packing hats. I usually pack a hat to help protect my face from the sun and like to keep it from losing its form during the shuffle of the flight. I fill it with light fabrics such as a scarf or light weight pajamas to help keeps its shape. I also build a soft base around the hat to keep the brim flat. This technique hasn’t failed me yet.
  • Split up clothes. Since Philipp and I travel together, we split our items 50/50. Half of my items go into my luggage, the other half is put into his luggage, and vise versa. This way if anything happens to one of our suitcases, we will each have at least half of our belongings.
  • Keep sentimental items on your person. This is a must for me. All of my jewelry and  sentimental pieces stay with me at all times in my carry on. Although these are material items, many were gifted to me by my parents and I would be devastated if I were to lose them.
  • On the plane. One thing I bring with me on every long haul flight is a face mask. I prefer a sheet mask and usually bring along the Boscia Sake Brightening Hydrogel Mask. As soon as the lights are out, the mask goes on. This always helps my skin look hydrated and fresh upon arrival!
